چکیده
UNLABELLED Nasal turbinates play an important role in nasal physiology. These functions include the important function of particle filtration by the mucocilliary system. Many nasal mucosal diseases, such as rhinitis and rhinosinusitis, are directly related with structural alterations of the mucosal lining of the turbinates. AIM To study the distribution pattern of the glandular epithelium of the lamina propria in the normal lower nasal turbinate mucosa of the anterior, medium and posterior portions. MATERIAL AND METHOD A prospective study in which small linear fragment of the lower nasal turbinate was removed from ten patients undergoing aesthetic nose surgery. The slides were hematoxilin-eosin stained, examined histologically and photographed. Glandular epithelium was delimited individually, the total area of the lamina propria on the anterior, medium and posterior portions of nasal turbinates was calculated (microm2). RESULTS There was no statistically significant difference in the distribution pattern of the glandular epithelium of the lamina propria. CONCLUSION This study showed no predominance of glandular epithelium distribution in anterior and posterior portions of lower nasal turbinates in normal subjects.

Cryosurgery Vs Trichloroacetic Acid Chemical Cautery for the Treatment of Hypertrophied Nasal Turbinate: A Comparative Study
Introduction: The Study Aimed To Compare The Results of Cryosurgery With Trichloroacetic Acid Chemical (TCA) Cautery For The Treatment of Hypertrophied Nasal Turbinates. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective study of 70 patients with nasal obstruction due to hypertrophied nasal turbinates who were randomly divided in 2 groups of 35 each. In group 1, patients underwent inferior nas...
متن کاملExpression patterns of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in nasal polyps and middle and inferior turbinates in relation to growth regulation and immunosuppression.
BACKGROUND The term nasal polyposis describes benign growth processes in the nasal and sinus mucosa, which are mainly located in the middle meatus and never in the inferior meatus. As a step to define the biochemical determinants relevant for growth regulation, we focused on endogenous lectins known for anti-apoptotic (galectin-3) and immunomodulatory (galectin-1) activities. DESIGN Using com...
متن کاملExpression and distribution of dendritic cells in nasal polyps
The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression, distribution and function of dendritic cells (DCs) and to study their role in nasal polyps. The study involved 55 participants, 45 of whom had nasal polyps and were the study group and 10 who had normal inferior turbinates and were the control group. Immunohistochemical staining was used to visualize the expression and distribution...
متن کاملIncreased activation and differentiated localization of native and phosphorylated STAT3 in nasal polyps.
BACKGROUND Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a multifactorial disease; the underlying mechanisms of cell signalling are not fully understood. STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) is a phosphokinase and a key signalling molecule implicated in cell cycle regulation. We studied the distribution and expression of STAT3 to examine the role of STAT3 in the pat...
